Grant Description
I need to have professional headshots taken. I was accepted to and participated in the Joffrey Musical Theater Intensive this past summer, and a point that many of my instructors made was that it is essential to make a positive impression upon everyone involved in any audition process, especially when there could be thousands of individuals going out for the same role or opportunity as you. High quality, accurate headshots are vital when it comes to making that positive impression upon casting teams so that they remember who you are as a performer and the work that you did in the audition room.

Grant Description
As a student in the Theatre Studies program, we are required to attend 10 shows throughout our time here, nine that we see as a class on Thursday evenings, and one that we get to choose to see on our own. Already, we have seen a wide range of shows from West End productions to fringe shows, from musicals to plays, from large ensemble productions to a one- woman show, and I have found myself being inspired by or drawn to different elements of each show, learning so much about the craft of acting/theatre production just by going to the theatre.

Grant Description
Over the past two years, despite difficulties posed by the pandemic, I have tried to make the most of the opportunities at UVA and elsewhere to continue my actor training. I would like to pursue a career in musical theatre, TV, and/or film, so I have sought out experiences focused on singing, acting, and dancing in order to hone my skill set.

Meggie Ferguson grew up in Falls Church, VA. From a young age, she immersed herself in various areas of the arts throughout her community. She started playing the flute in 4th grade; joined her local dance company, Every Body Dance, in 5th grade; started acting in musicals and plays in middle school; was a member of her high school Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir; and has taken flute and vocal lessons throughout middle and high school. Once she got to high school, she became more involved in her drama department, where she was able to combine her passion for singing, acting, dancing, and playing the flute. Some of her favorite high school productions include Chicago (Roxie Hart), Spamalot (Angel), and Metamorphoses (Narrator). In her first year, she was cast in First Year Players’ productions of The Music Man (Mrs. Paroo) and Kiss Me, Kate. She also joined the Virginia Belles, UVA’s oldest all-female a cappella group. She is constantly looking for opportunities to hone and express her multidisciplinary artistic skills and to become a stronger ensemble member, so she is extremely grateful to be able to work with other passionate artists through Miller Arts Scholars.
