Seminar & Discussion
CASS 1010 and 1011 are required, one-hour classes for second through fourth-year Miller Arts Scholars. Faculty from Music, Studio Art, Drama, and Dance, and others will share aspects of their personal research, thoughts about Arts at the University, practical applications of an Art Major after college, etc.
CASS 1010 Goal
CASS 1010 is a required seminar class for all Miller Arts Scholars. This course is designed to foster critical reflection, interdisciplinary dialogue, and personal growth as an artist and scholar. Through a combination of readings, activities, discussions, guest lectures, and portfolio presentations, students will explore the nature of artistic practice and scholarship, the role of the artist as maker, thinker, critic, and human being, and examine the broader implications of creative work within the arts community.
The seminar will encourage students to reflect on how and why they make art, and to define their artistic practice in meaningful ways. By engaging with diverse perspectives and practices, students will develop the skills to critically express and write about their own creative work and the work of others. The course also aims to stimulate cross-disciplinary conversation and collaboration among students from a wide range of artistic disciplines.
CASS 1011 Goal
CASS 1011 is a discussion course for programmatic development, sharing ideas, and mentoring for second through fourth-year Arts Scholars. Our goal is to create connections and stimulate discussion between all Miller Arts Scholars. This discussion course is offered during the spring semester.
In SPRING 2026, this course will be offered on Mondays, 5:00 pm-5:50 pm.
