Grant Description
I am interested in exploring how online fan art practices can become viewed as a legitimate form of New Media art. To explore this, I would like to ask the Miller Arts Scholars program to fund a short series of cosplay edits I'd like to create. This series will comprise of around 4-5 edits of me cosplaying different fantasy creatures found in the worlds of my favorite fandoms.

Grant Description
I propose that I will create a short pilot for an animated series. Though the plot is discernible at this point, I have a simple idea for my pilot: a goofy and girl-friendly take on the sci-fi genre, a 16-year-old girl works ardently to become the next Evil Space Empress/Overlord of the galaxy (akin to Darth Vader). She does this all whilst navigating the ordinary perils of high school and personal struggles of her mixed-species (half-alien-half-human) identity.

Grant Description
I propose that I will spend the 2022-2023 school year creating and visually designing a romance TTRPG. I am particularly interested in Regency romances (e.g., Jane Austen and Netflix's Bridgerton) and will create my game under this theme. In my game, players will use character sheets of my design to create characters in Regency England's high-society.

Olivia Shepard is a 2D/digital artist. She is from Woodbridge, Virginia and is a Media Studies and Studio Art (New Media Concentration) major. Art has always been an important part of Olivia’s identity and life. Since she was young, she’s been very inspired by cartoon tv shows and their characters. This led to her passion for drawing/storytelling and is how she knew she wanted to be an illustrator/artist. Growing up, Olivia didn’t have much access to a formal art education, as she was in a military family and moved around a lot. However, Olivia did research and practiced art in her free time to better her talents. Now that Olivia is in college, she is taking full advantage of the opportunities being provided to her by the university to grow as an illustrator and artist. Olivia’s goals for the future are to draw/write/publish her own graphic story. She also wishes to have a successful art instagram account and Redubble/Etsy shop. In her free time, Olivia enjoys drawing/writing, watching cartoons, and playing the Sims. Olivia is very excited to grow as an artist through the Miller Arts Scholar program and to see where the program will take her in her academic and personal growth.
