Grant Description
I intend to create my entire album by the end of 2022 (one year from now), and am very confident that with this equipment I will certainly be able to do so. With the MicroFreak I will be able to exponentially expand the boundaries of what is possible for me as a producer given the synthesis capabilities of the machine. With the virtual granular effect Portal plugin I will be able to create new effects for my sounds and curate a unique sound of my own through novel production techniques that Portal would enable me. This is particularly important for me, as Logic (my current DAW of choice) does not have a good granular synthesis plugin.

Grant Description
The core of my creative electronic music production at a professional-level is a studio space that caters for my own expression. Although I have been able to pursue this passion in my current studio space, there are very important barriers that I’ve come across which inhibit my ability to create meaningful, impactful and plentiful music. I recognise that these issues are resolved via the purchase of new equipment. In my current space, one of my largest issues is the inability to access all of my equipment simultaneously, often due to a lack of flat desk space.

Grant Description
Contemporary music production, specifically the type of work that my project entails, is not possible without the use of a digital audio workstation (DAW). A mobile DAW that can handle the tasks necessary to complete this project is absolutely essential. For this reason, I am applying for funding for a powerful laptop with both the mobility and improved computational power to make this project feasible, and a high-fidelity field recorder to perform the field recordings.

The Last Left Behind

Connor Noble is a classically-trained cellist and avid electronic music producer double majoring in computer science and music. Growing up overseas and moving frequently, Connor's life experience is defined by his time spent living in Mexico, Russia, China, the Philippines and Greece. Having intimately experienced myriad cultures around the world, he now draws on such experiences to bring new and interesting perspectives to his work. Connor began playing the cello at the age of seven and has since accrued extensive instruction through orchestral participation and private tutorage. He simultaneously enjoys producing music through both composition and electronic music production, having subsequently published his work on major streaming platforms. Music has always been a close personal companion for Connor first as a consumer, then a player, and finally a creator. He now is increasingly involved with the musical space here at UVA through organisations such as Radio Music Society. Connor is honoured to be a Miller Arts Scholar and is excited by all the opportunities for growth and collaboration that lie ahead.
