Grant Description
It is my intention to visit Steps on Broadway and take ballet and modern classes, as well as American Repertoire Ballet, Alvin Ailey, and a few other dance schools in NYC. I want to use this trip as a continuation of my studies over the summer in Columbus, and to reinforce the things I learned there. Also, I would like to participate in a couple company auditions while I am there. My overall objective, as before, is to continue to build my technique and artistry. I also hope to be able to glean more ideas and inspiration for choreography at the dance department at UVa. The entire project will take place over the course of two or three days.

Grant Description
The main part of the project will be taking place in Columbus, Ohio at the summer intensive program for students at BalletMet. As a prospective dance minor at a liberal arts institution that only offers a minor in dance, I have been searching for opportunities to immerse myself in the professional dance world. After participating in several auditions for dance intensives, I chose BalletMet because of the extensiveness of the program, and also because it works with several dance genres closely resembling modern/contemporary technique in addition to classical ballet technique.

Performance Intensive with BalletMet

Bryce is from Tidewater, Virginia, and trained at Virginia Regional Ballet in Williamsburg for nearly all of his dance education prior to university. He first fell in love with dance through classical music, particularly through ballets written by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev such as Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet. This was his introduction to dance in general and, as a result, his early dance training was almost exclusively in ballet. Since he has been at UVa, however, he has spent a lot of time branching out into other dance forms, largely in various styles of modern dance technique, and contemporary ballet. He continues to train in classical ballet with Charlottesville Ballet in addition to dancing at the university. Bryce is very excited to be a part of the Miller Arts Scholars program and to see what new directions it takes his education in dance.
